Sri Swamiji being a profound scholar in Sanskrit, Philosophy and Literature of Shiva Sharanas took initiative to start an educational society in the name of S.J.M. Vidyapeetha in the year 1966. This Vidyapeetha was to provide educational and employment opportunity to the students and educated people from all parts of Karnataka and the country. This S.J.M. Vidyapeetha has now grown into a big institution with the co-operation of the disciples of the Math in particular and citizens of Karnataka in general. As on today there are 132 educational institutions which include First Grade Colleges(08), Pharmacy College(01), Medical College & Hospital(01), Engineering College(01), Dental College and Hospital(01), Polytechnics(03) and High Schools, Primary Schools and Pre Primary Schools.
The college has well designed buildings for teaching administration and hospital purposes. It has a rich logistic infrastructure to ensure best teaching and learning environment. Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 ½ academic years from the date of commencement of his/her study for the subject comprising the medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination followed by one year compulsory rotating Internship. The 4 ½ years course has been divided into three phases.
Phase – I - 1 year, consisting of 2 terms of 6 months each.
2.Phase – II - 1 ½ years, consisting of 3 terms of 6 months each.
3.Phase – III - 2 years, consisting of 4 terms
The first year shall be occupied in the study of the Phase-I (Pre Clinical) subject of Human Anatomy(650 hrs), Physiology including Bio Physics (480 hrs), Biochemistry (240 hrs) and Introduction to Community Medicine (60 hrs).
After passing pre-clinical subjects in Phase-I, the Phase-II shall be 3 terms (1 ½ years) devoted to Para Clinical and Clinical subjects. Para Clinical subjects shall consist of Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine including Toxicology and part of Community Medicine. During this phase the clinical subjects shall be taught concurrently. The clinical subjects taught will be Medicine and its allied specialities, surgery and its allied specilities and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Phase-III Part-I ( 2 terms ) consists of Community Medicine, ENT and Ophthalmology
Phase-III Part-II ( 2 terms) consists of Medicine and its allied specialities, Surgery and its allied specialities, Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Admission Requirement :
Candidate should have passed the two year Pre University Examination or 10+2 years of schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as a language subject. And, He/She must have secured minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology put together. In respect of candidate belong to SC/ST or Category-I, This percentage shall be 40% instead of 50% as above.
In case of admission on the basic of Competitive Entrance Examination, in addition to the above, the candidate must have come in the merit list by securing not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the competitive examination. In case of SC/ST or Category-I it is 40% in aggregate instead of 50% as stated above.
The candidate should have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st day of December of the year of admission.
