Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Medical College (MBBS) Admissions through Management Quota

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College has been established in the year 1981 by Ananda Social and Education Trust,with the objective of providing Primary, Secondary and Tertiary health care facilities to the deserving. The institution also envisages provision of quality medical education both for Undergraduates and Post graduates.

It also has facilities for cultural and sports activities for students fulfilling the need for extra curricular activities.

The curriculum followed, is as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, which awards the various degrees & diplomas.

In May 1987, the college moved to its own campus at Kadugondanahalli. The elegant and imposing college building with its beautiful architectural design attracts the attention of all visitors. It is well planned and accommodates the Administrative block, Trust office, Ananda Co-operative Bank-Extn. Counter, Central Library, Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical departments and a modern OPD Block. The hospital with 560 beds is also situated on the campus. The college was initially affiliated to the Bangalore University and is now affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The college runs the MBBS course as well as post-graduate courses in many subjects that are recognized by the Medical Council of India (vide MCI Order MCI/50(4)/91-Med./19649 dt. 22/11/1991). The intake of MBBS students per academic year is 100 and the present student strength of the college is 563, out of which 10% belong to SC/ST. Also on campus are the School of Nursing, Physiotherapy Block which houses the Institute of Physiotherapy, and the Gents and Ladies Hostels.

A well stocked, state of the art central library provides a superb knowledge database to cater to Undergraduates, Post-graduates, PhD students as well as the staff. The well trained and dedicated library staff understand the needs of the students and guide them in accessing the literature they need.

GENERAL GUIDELINES COMMON TO ALL THREE SUBJECTS OF I MBBS

1. Duration of each Phase and Subjects

As per the new regulations of Medical Council of India (MCI) the MBBS course has been divided into 3 phases

The entire course in covered in 4 ½ years in order to meet the stringent norms laid down by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and MCI.

The duration of each phase is:

Phase I - 1 Year
Phase II - 1 1/2 Years
Phase III - 3 1/2 Years after completion of Phase

The Subjects in phase I are Anatomy, Physiology including Biophysics , Biochemistry and Introduction to Community Medicine

The Subjects in phase II are Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology & Forensic Medicine.

The Subjects in phase III are: Part-I Community Medicine, ENT & Ophthalmology Part – II - Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Internship : 

After passing of Final MBBS Examination, the student should undergo 12 months of Compulsory Rotating Internship in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Community Medicine as detailed below:

1. Every candidate will be required, after passing the Final MBBS, Examination to undergo compulsory Rotating Internship, to the satisfaction of the University for a period of 12 months, so as to be eligible for the award of the degree of MBBS and full registration. All parts of the internship shall be done as for as possible in Institutions in India. In case of any difficulty the matter may be referred to the Medical Council of India to be considered on individual merits.

2. The University shall issue a Provisional MBBS pass certificate on passing the Final MBBS Examination.

3. The candidate shall obtain provisional registration certificate from State Medical Council on production of the provisional MBBS pass certificate. The provisional registration will be for a period of one year. In the event of shortage or unsatisfactory work, the period of provisional registration and the compulsory rotating internship may be suitably extended by the appropriate authorities.

5. The compulsory Rotating Internship for 12 months should be done in teaching and non-teaching approved hospitals like District hospital, Rural Health Training centre / and upgraded primary health centers attached to the existing institutions. Satisfactory collaboration must exist between such hospital/rural centers and the medical colleges. The compulsory Rotating internship shall include training in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in Community Health Work at rural Health Training Centres or Upgraded Health Centres.

Eligibilty : 

  1. Those who have passed the two year Pre-University course examination conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Board or other equivalent qualifying examinations with physics, Chemistry and Biology as electives with not less than 50% Score in the electives are eligible to seek admission to First Year M.B.B.S Course leading upto the MBBS Degree of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  2. The registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is the authority to decide equivalence and any information or clarification may be sought directly from the Registrar, Bangalore University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  3. All candidates must appear for a recognised medical entrance examination in order to be considered eligible for admission (Must have a rank, by the competent authority).
  4. The Candidate seeking admission should have completed seventeen years at the time of admission.
  5. The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates seeking admission should have scored a minimum of 40% in the electives. Otherwise the eligibility conditions remain the same for them also.
  6. The foreign nationals seeking admission to this college have to comply with all the formalities as laid down by the Government of India as in force at the time of application. Even the provisional admissions made of foreign students will be confirmed subject to the approval of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
