About Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS)

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) was established in the year 1980. It is started under the Vokkaligara Sangha. The Vokkaligara Sangha is founded in 1906 to promote education in rural Mysore.

The Vokkaligara Sangha took a formal decision on 2.9.1979 to start a medical college from the year 1980–81 and applied for permission to the registrar, Bangalore University.

The college has two campuses. The hospital and clinical departments are on the VV Puram campus while the pre-clinical and para-clinical departments are on the Banashankari campus. Transport between the campuses is provided.

KIMS is recognized by the Medical Council of India permanently for running of MBBS Course since 1980-81 and also running Post-graduate degree/diploma courses since 1991-92 and these courses are also recognized by Government of India.
